Computer help please!?

I have a compaq. Its about 3 years old. Every three days my automatic updates come up and it says "restart computer now". click it and it restarts but i black screen just sits there. I let it sit over night and my computer still wasnt back on. So bascially every 3 days i have to press F10 and do a system recovery. And every time i do that i have to re-download all my stuff again. Sound driver, AIM, WIndows Media Player 10, Mozilla Firefox, ect. And that takes along time. Plus just doing the system recovery takes about 30 minutes. I have no money to buy any "new" virus protection because i'm 15 years old and yea. My mom wont buy it. I just have norton 2005. Can someone please help me so i do not have to system restore my computer every 3 days. Please. Someone please help me? =[

click start / control panel / security center and turn OFF auto update .... you can visit the update site as you wish by clicking start / all programs / windows update .. maybe its the updater itself ... that will at least by you more time ... visit the freecreed. com website and click free programs / free spyware removal .. every program listed is free for life .. not trial offers or pay .. plus lots of other free stuff for those in your budget range ... hope that helps ...
