How do I clear norton antivirus from programs?

It was already removed but when trying to download new virus protection it says it can/t until norton removed. I do not see any norton files listed.

Look through your Add/Remove folder in the Control Panel. Anything Symantec (including LiveUpdate) will have to be removed.

If necessary, you might also need to manually remove registry entries, or get a decent Registry Cleaner to do it for you.

and delete the folder of norton from your program files

and if this not work you can format your operating system
I think you need to check the registry. There may be some traces of Norton on the registry which is not letting the other virus to download.

Go to START then RUN and type REGEDIT then hit enter.

Go to the directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and then click on Software and make sure the any file of norton or its program folder is not in that directory. If it is, then delete it. That will clean it from your registry.
still there may be some supported software of the norton on your system.. so be sure that.. you remove all the supporting software of norton from the control panel and add or remove programs and after tjat restart your pc.. before installing new norton...

if you have an anti-virus protected recycle bin, restore what you uninstalled then uninstall them customly and not automatically
Go to control panel and click add/Remove program, select it and click remove,follow the instruction that . The PC should automatically restart if not restart amanually .If this doesnt work get back to me
